About Me

I'm adventurous when I want to be, but I'm just as happy watching a movie at home. I'm married to my best friend who makes me laugh on a regular basis & a son that makes me happier then he will ever know. I strongly feel that the most important thing in life is your relationship with Christ and your relationship with others.

The Shack

I had the opportunity to read "The Shack" while I was in AZ for work this week. I thought about including it in my hodgepodge post, but decided it needed a tribute of it's very own.

My dad is the reader of our family. He has always read, which is great, but also frustrating when the only think he wants for Christmas every year is a book! You can wrap it in a sweater box or put it in a bag, but everyone knows his package will undoubtedly be a book. What put me over the edge to read "The Shack" is that this is the only book he's ever asked my mom and I to read! He's made suggestions over the years, but he actually brought his copy to me at Thanksgiving and said, "read this" & I'm so glad he did!

I won't get into the story line too much b/c I don't want to spoil anything, but it's a fictional murder mystery that addresses a lot of questions about who God is in a very unconventional way. I've heard a lot of mixed reviews & have learned this is a rather "controversial" book, but as long as you start reading with an open mind then I think you will see how amazing it really is.

I don't know if it's a generational or personal appeal, but I finished this book with a lot of questions I battle with over and over being answered. The reason I allude to it possibly being a generational issue is that I've learned of older readers having more questions when finishing this book. I personally experienced the opposite effect. I can't say I've ever read a fiction book that has made me want to grow closer to God as much as this one has.

Once you've read it we can discuss it a little more since it's hard to explain and talk about without reveling surprise moments within the story. Just remember the key is to be open minded & be prepared to take God out of the box....and you'll never want to put him back in (yes...a little cheesy for me, but I couldn't resist).

I love how you read that book in a week and it took me about 4 months to finish:-) But I literally just finished it today at the auto store waiting on an oil change. It was definitely thought provoking but I loved it! I thought he took a cool twist on things that I probably would never have even thought of. Agree?

haha! It's easier to read when I'm away from normal life traveling otherwise it would take me longer too. :) I agree, very thought provoking & a new twist on truths about God. I'm glad you liked it too! Again, Marissa I think you will love it.
