Yard Overhaul Part II

I thought to change it up I would do a little FAQ with the grass expert himself! You would have never thought someone cared about grass so much!

What made you go with the Yukon Bermuda?
it's cold tolerance and low thick growth habit and dark green color. It's a good durable grass. Here is a great article on it.

What is the history of this type of grass?
Created by Oklahoma State University research term in conjunction w/ the USGA

It's a "hybrid" grass, what does that mean?
Simply means it is grown from seeds rather than split off from other
bermuda plants

What kind of maintenance will this grass require?
mowing and fertilizing

Why did you choose to seed the yard instead of the traditional sod or "plugs" bermuda comes in?
This grass doesn't come in a plug or sod & it seemed to be a better choice for Southeast TN and the transition zone.

You wife was fine with fescu grass, why did you despise it so much?
Grows tall and can't be maintained short and browns easily during July
and August, doesn't look much like a golf course at all!

Where did you find your most useful information?

Why did you test the soil so often, does it really matter?
to determine what needed to be done to the soil prior to planting

What was the hardest part of the yard "renovation"?
Clearing all the old grass and the irrigation

Was the work more or less than you expected?
Somewhat more than I was expecting.

Do you want to quit your job and become a landscaper?
If I thought I could start out making as much money right away, yes!

Was your wife a rockstar helping out that weekend?
She was awesome, she was a real trooper!

Is this bermuda really that much better than other bermuda on the market?
In my humble opinion, yes!

Is you wife going to divorce you if this seed doesn't grow?
Probably, if not she will be pissed and may burn our yard and house down.

What advice would you give to someone wanting to take on this similar project?
THINK LONG AND HARD ABOUT IT!
