About Me

I'm adventurous when I want to be, but I'm just as happy watching a movie at home. I'm married to my best friend who makes me laugh on a regular basis & a son that makes me happier then he will ever know. I strongly feel that the most important thing in life is your relationship with Christ and your relationship with others.

Paws & Claws

Last week John & I went to the orientation at the local Humane Society shelter for dogs & cats. I've been wanting to volunteer with Paws & Claws since we moved to Rochester, but never "found the time." Our schedules are slowly filling up & I knew that it was now or never to make the commitment! John wasn't thrilled about going with me to the hour long meeting to hear about volunteer requirements, but I'm thankful he did.

I'm not sure exactly when I'll find 3-4 hours a month to go to the shelter, but I know that anything is possible when you make it a priority & that's what I plan to do. I'm super excited to start!! I'll have to do a 2-3 hour hands on training session first, but then I'm ready to go! I've decided to start working with cats first & later on when I'm a "purple level volunteer" (or something like that) I'll go through more training to work with the dogs. I wanted to start with the cats b/c I feel like less people love them. :) If someone likes animals it's normally dogs so I figure they need more help finding people to work with cats. The selfish reason is that I have a hard time walking my own dogs in the dead of winter & I don't want to do it twice! :)

I'm hoping this will be a great way for me to fill the need to adopt every animal I see. Trust me--if I could--I would! If I can help find someone else to adopt them & just play/love them in the process, I'll feel like I'm making a difference. It could backfire and make me want to adopt them all even more... only time will tell! I'm not sure when my training will be, but don't worry I'll keep ya posted!
